Resveratrol, The Wonder Compound
Resveratrol, the wonder compound found in red wine and the skin of grapes, has been found to have numerous health benefits when consumed by humans.
Today we count down the very best health benefits to be had when consuming Resveratrol supplements as part of your regular diet.
A wide selection of Resveratrol Supplements can be found for purchase in our Antioxidants section
7. Enhanced Endurance
While endurance training can have many benefits for the body its effects can be enhanced by taking a Resveratrol supplement. In fact a 2012 Canadian study found that consuming the compound on its own can have similar skeletal muscle benefits as endurance training. Conducted over a 12 week period on rats, the study found that taking Resveratrol supplements also resulted in a general increase of endurance, oxidative metabolism, and enhanced cardiac function.
The combination of regular endurance training and Resveratrol supplements found a performance increaseof 21% over training alone.
6. It Boosts Testosterone
As men age their testosterone naturally declines, with the process normally beginning in their thirties. While there are testosterone replacement therapies out there, these can have side effects, so a more natural treatment is preferred.
A Korean study conducted on mice showed that after a 28 day period of Resveratrol consumption the testosterone concentration in their blood was improved by more than 50%. Even if the effect is smaller in humans, which it may be, Resveratrol should be considered as a helpful supplement for men suffering from low testerone.
5. It Helps Protect Your Eyesight
While vision is our most important sense, most of us will undergo some form of vision loss as we age. A study by Missouri researchers has found that Resveratrol has the ability to counteract eyesight decline and protect our vision.
It was found that it can regulate angiogenesis and prevent the abnormal growth of blood vessels that damage eyesight as we age. Other vision protecting foods to consider include omega-3 fatty fish, as well as foods rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E, all of which are available from our online store.
4. It combats the effect of bad diet
Researchers have found that Resveratrol can combat some of the negative health effects of a high-fat/high-sugar diet. It was found that when the compound was given to monkeys on a high-fat/high-sugar diet their muscles became far more resistant to fatigue than those on the same diet without the supplement.
When asked if the effect could be transposed to humans, researchers at Georgetown University said it could “contribute to improved physical activity, mobility, or stability, especially in elderly individuals.”
3. It Aids Cardiovascular Health
Heart Disease is a terrible condition and it today ranked as the leading cause of death in the United States. Everyone is susceptible to developing Heart Disease but those with a family history are particularly at risk and so should be especially protective of their health and plan ahead.
A study in Canada found that by drinking one to two glasses of wine per day, those participating were able to significantly reduce their risk of developing artherosclerotic disease, which is a precursor to heart disease and stroke. By doing this they reduced their risk of death by around 30%. Researchers in Connecticut later determined that consuming Resveratrol preconditions your heart and provides it with the best protection against future cardiac events.
2. It Helps Prevent Cancer
Cancer is a terrible condition than unfortunately is growing more common in today’s world. Many of us have a family history of cancer, and so we know that we are at higher risk and should take steps now to try and prevent the condition or reduce its effect.
Colon cancer is the most frequently occurring digestive cancer, but a study in France found that when Resveratrol was administered to sufferers the production of cancerous cells was slowed. They concluded that the compound could be considered an effective anticancer agent.
1.It Improves Brain Function, Mental Performance and Memory
Having good blood flow to the brain is essential for healthy cognitive function. In a UK study on 22 healthy adults, researchers found that neurological blood flow was increased following the consumption of r
Resveratrol. This supports a previous study by Illinois researchers that found that the compound increased both mental performance and memory when given to mice.
In a study conducted by the National Institute on Aging and conducted with the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study, over one hundred people with mild to moderate dementia who were given 1g of high grade Resveratrol in supplement form twice a day for 12 months while a control group received a placebo. Those taking the supplement showed no further deterioration, suggesting that the disease had stabilised. They also recorded improved test scores which recorded how well they dressed themselves, cooked and used public transport.
